In my still lifes I use simple and beautiful objects in a traditional
manner and I work with subtle shifts in tonal values. I push the
classical Dutch still life palette to the light end of the scale, and use
more vivid hues as counterpoint. Through glazing as well as direct
brushwork, these paintings achieve balance and harmony. I enjoy
working out of the formal tradition of the past and linking those
traditions with the present.
