My landscapes are inspired by my plein-air painting excursions.
Plein-air painting is alla prima or direct painting executed with a
spontaneous technique. Fresh applications of clear, simple, tones are
directly applied to a slightly absorbent ground. The aim is to arrive
immediately at the final effect of the finished picture. Color, drawing,
and modeling must be attended to at one and the same time. In these
paintings, I have captured the transient effect of light and
atmosphere that permeates the wonderful Canadian landscape.
