About the artist
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, I was educated in Toronto and have been drawing and painting all
- my life. After studying commercial art and painting at Central Technical School, I worked as an
- art director in both advertising and publishing, designing various leading national magazines.
- Always drawn back to my first love, art, I have continued to study drawing and painting and
- have been exhibiting my work for 20 years.
-
I use a variety of mediums including charcoal, pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylics. Degas,
- Matisse, Diebenkorn and De Kooning have influenced my own language of expression. My focus
- is on the use of strong underlying structure and color to support figures and images that evoke
- memory and emotion. In my portraits, life studies and landscapes, the figures are intimately
- connected to each other and to the objects around them and are firmly anchored by the
- background shapes and tones. The result is my own particular vision of time and space.
- My work is represented by the RedEye Studio Gallery in The Distillery Historic District, 55 Mill
- Street, Toronto, and is in private collections across North America.
