About the artist

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, I was educated in Toronto and have been drawing and painting all

my life. After studying commercial art and painting at Central Technical School, I worked as an

art director in both advertising and publishing, designing various leading national magazines.

Always drawn back to my first love, art, I have continued to study drawing and painting and

have been exhibiting my work for 20 years.

I use a variety of mediums including charcoal, pastel, watercolor, oil and acrylics. Degas,

Matisse, Diebenkorn and De Kooning have influenced my own language of expression. My focus

is on the use of strong underlying structure and color to support figures and images that evoke

memory and emotion. In my portraits, life studies and landscapes, the figures are intimately

connected to each other and to the objects around them and are firmly anchored by the

background shapes and tones. The result is my own particular vision of time and space.

My work is represented by the RedEye Studio Gallery in The Distillery Historic District, 55 Mill

Street, Toronto, and is in private collections across North America.
