Whatever the medium, these evocative paintings and drawings based
on old family photographs have a story to tell. A small and grainy
black and white image can be the emotional starting point for a new
composition of figures expressed in vivid color and line, bringing the
past into present tense. I am more concerned with capturing the
underlying drama and connection between the figures than with a
totally accurate rendering of the original people. Yet somehow the
essence of the characters in these paintings remains true, and invites
the viewer to become part of their story.
